The Rivers State Ministry of Education has confirmed that all primary and secondary schools across the state will resume for the second term on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The announcement applies to both public and private schools and follows the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar, Hitvibz reports

Parents, guardians, school owners, and education stakeholders have been urged to rely only on official information and disregard misleading reports circulating online about a different resumption date.
In a public interest announcement issued on January 4, 2026, the Ministry made it clear that Rivers State school resumption remains unchanged.
Schools are expected to reopen as scheduled after the holiday break, with teaching and learning activities commencing immediately.
The Ministry emphasised that the directive covers all primary and secondary schools in Rivers State, regardless of ownership status.
School administrators have been advised to make adequate preparations ahead of the January 5 return.
Ministry of Education Warns Against Fake News on School Resumption
Addressing the spread of false information on social media, the Ministry cautioned parents and school operators against acting on unverified sources.
According to the statement, any school that fails to comply with the official resumption date risks facing sanctions.
The announcement was signed by Dr. Mrs. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Education.
