A fatal accident along Oyigbo-Aba road have reportedly claimed the lives of eight people on Christmas Day, according to the Rivers State Federal Road Safety Corps.
Sanusi Galadunci, the FRSC’s commandant, revealed this in a statement on Monday in Port Harcourt.
He mentioned that a bus carrying 10 passengers from Oyigbo in the state’s Oyigbo Local Government Area was involved in the incident, which occurred around 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Salisu Galadunci, sector commander for FRSC Rivers State, told reporters that the incident was the only reported road accident in the state on Christmas Day.
He stated that there was a possibility of drunk driving. Mr. Galadunci noted that all of the car’s occupants—including a young girl—died instantly.
“The vehicle took off from Oyigbo and was coming inside town. Along the line, where they call Sand Shore Junction, the bus lost control, veered off the road and collided with a truck parked by the roadside. That resulted in casualties. Only two persons survived out of the 10 occupants of the bus.” – Mr. Galadunci said.
He added that;
“Of course, the bodies were taken to a morgue, while the two injured persons were taken to a hospital. The police have taken over investigations.”
The FRSC Commander continued by advising drivers to abstain from driving after drinking and wishing the residents of the state a joyful holiday.
The FRSC Commander referred to the situation as regrettable while advising drivers to maintain their cars and continuously check their speed limit as well.
