Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Rivers State Chapter, don tell Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara say make e change the leadership for Rivers State Ministry of Sports.
The association still beg make government reorganise the management of Rivers United, Rivers Angels and Rivers Hoopers because according to dem, the clubs never perform well despite all the money wey state government don spend on dem, na weytin Hitvibz dey yan be dat.
Rivers SWAN Wan Make Fubara Change Sports Leadership
SWAN take reach this decision during dia general meeting wey happen on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, for Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
As e dey talk after the meeting, SWAN Rivers Chairman, Cyril Dum Wite, say the main reason for the proposed changes na to reposition sports for Rivers State and prepare the clubs to perform better next season.
According to am, the association believe say fresh ideas and experienced sports administrators fit help bring back the glory of sports for the state.
“Under the present leadership of the ministry, sports dey die small small, and as major stakeholders, we no go allow the situation worse pass this one.
“The management team of all the clubs fit no dey follow modern sports administration or fresh ideas. Na why e dey very necessary make dem reorganise the structure and appoint people wey get better experience for sports administration to run the affairs of the clubs.”
Rivers United, Rivers Angels Among Clubs Wey SWAN Want Make Dem Reorganise
Although Rivers United and Rivers Angels na the clubs wey plenty people dey talk about, SWAN still include Rivers Hoopers for the call, insisting say the performances of all the state-owned clubs never match the huge money wey Rivers State Government don invest in dem.
The association believe say if government appoint qualified sports administrators, e go improve how the clubs dey run, increase accountability and help the teams produce better results for different competitions.
Even though SWAN criticise the present sports leadership, the association still praise Governor Fubara for the way e don continue to support sports development for Rivers State.
Dem hail the ongoing total renovation of Yakubu Gowon Stadium, saying the project go help bring more sporting activities come back to the state.
SWAN also commend the governor for always approving funds make athletes attend different sports competitions and festivals, plus the cash gifts wey e don give outstanding athletes.
“Governor never fail to approve and release money make athletes attend different sports competitions and festivals. This one show clear say the governor truly love sports.
“Apart from that one, e still dey receive athletes and reward dem with cash gifts.”
The association still appeal to Governor Fubara make e build a permanent SWAN office for Rivers State wey go carry im name as part of the legacy wey e don build for sports development.
