Nigerians traveling to Europe and the United States have been warned by the federal government to take extra security measures to protect their valuables.
On Monday in Abuja, during the fifth installment of the “President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) Administration Scorecard 2015-2023 Series,” Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, offered the advise.
Mohammed stated in his opening statement that the advise had become crucial in light of recent incidents involving the theft of Nigerian travelers’ property, particularly cash and international passports, in the US and certain European nations.
The minister stated that since the incidents had increased, the advice was obviously required.
“The most recent victims of this were travelers to the UK, most of whom were dispossessed of their belongings at high brow shops, particularly in the high street of Oxford.” – Lai Mohammed said.
The Minister added that;
“We have therefore decided to advise Nigerians travelling to Europe and the United States to take extra precaution to avoid being dispossessed of their belongings.”
He further stressed That;
“This is not your typical travel advisory. Issuing such is the prerogative of our embassies/high commissions as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is merely a piece of advice to Nigerians who may be visiting the affected parts of the world.“
