Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has stated that the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Lyorcha Ayu, has recently displayed arrogance, insincerity, lack of integrity and dishonesty.
According to the governor, this behavior could jeopardize the PDP’s electoral prospects in the 2023 general elections.
Governor Wike stated this on Thursday during the inauguration of the Omerelu internal roads in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
The governor revealed that he had anticipated that Senator Ayu, as party chairman, would bring all disgruntled members together and inspire them to vote in unison in the elections of 2023, ensuring that PDP would win.
Instead of doing that, Senator Ayu has demonstrated his lack of gratitude by referring to the elected governors of the States who helped advance his campaign as party chairman, as children.
“Dr. Ayu said we are children. Yes, the children brought you to be chairman of the party. The children brought you from the gutter and made you chairman. Ayu, you were impeached as Senate president. Ayu, were sacked by Obasanjo in his administration two times. Arrogance cannot take you anywhere. Now, we have seen that you don’t want the party to win election, we’ll help you.”
The Rivers state governor dismissed the assertion by Senator Ayu, who claimed to be one of the PDP’s founding members.
He emphasized that Senator Ayu had already left the PDP and joined another party; as a result, he is not able to share the same stakes with those who remained to help the party regain its footing.
Governor Wike said that Senator Ayu had voluntarily agreed to give up his chairmanship as a northerner if the PDP ultimately chose a candidate from the north for president.
The governor urged Senator Ayu to maintain his word and step down from that post in order to be a man of honor.
He emphasized that if Senator Ayu persists in his conceit, the PDP governors whom he had equated to children will prove to him that he is a wayward father.
“A man who is inconsistent and ran away from the party, telling those of us who spent our time, sleepless night to make sure this party does not go down we are children. Now, you have the temerity, the audacity to tell us we are children. We will tell you that you are the prodigal father.” – he said.
According to Governor Wike, Nigerians are keeping an eye on the events as they develop and would eventually be advised to exercise greater caution when casting their votes for someone with Senator Ayu’s reputation.
“Nigerians have seen how ungrateful some of you can be, and that’s why also Nigerians must be careful. If we give this man power, if we give these people power, are you sure they will also be grateful to Nigerians? As you make your bed, so you will lie on it. I’ve been quiet thinking that we will reconcile. Now that you have brought in arrogance to say you were elected, where did you campaign? Show me where your poster was, anywhere in this state.“
