A statement signed by Kelvin Ebiri, the Special Assistant on Media to Governor Wike revealed that the cancellation follows the resolution of the State House of Assembly.

It said the signing will take place at the Government House in Port Harcourt, on October 7th at 12noon.

In what appears to be implementation of the Supreme Court decision that removed Omehia from office in 2008, the lawmakers have asked Governor Wike to stop recognizing Omehia as the former governor of Rivers state.

The full statement reads;

His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, is to sign the instrument on cancellation of the recognition of Sir Celestine Omehia as a former governor of Rivers State.

The cancellation of the recognition is sequel to the resolution of the Rivers State House of Assembly adopted on Thursday, 6th October, 2022 to derecognise Sir Celestine Omehia as a former governor of the State.

The signing will take place in Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday, 7th October, 2022 by 12 noon.

Omehia, a cousin of former Rivers Governor – Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, presided over Rivers State for almost six months, before Supreme Court forced him to resign and recognized Amaechi as the legitimate governor.
