Police Officers from Rivers State Command have arrested a lawmaker in the state, Hon. Chinyere Igwe for alleged money laundering.
According to the police, the lawmaker, representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency was arrested in the early hours of Friday with a cash sum of 498,100 USD hidden in a bag in his car.
The police revealed this in a statement published on their twitter page, adding that a list on how the money will be distributed in the state was also recovered from the Hon. Chinyere Igwe.
Meanwhile, the AIG Election, AIG Abutu Yaro fdc has ordered swift interrogation and arraignment of the Rivers lawmaker in court.
The AIG Election advised all candidates and political parties to completely abide by the Electoral Act’s requirements and any other related law.
He also urged members of the public to use the police hotlines to report any observations they thought would incite crime or a breakdown in law and order.

“Rivers Police Arrest Hon Chinyere Igwe For Money Laundering. Police Officers from Rivers State Command deployed to INEC Headquarters Aba Road today 24/2/2023 at about 0245hrs, while on stop and search, arrested one Hon Chinyere Igwe, member House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency with a cash sum of 498,100 USD inside a bag in his car.
Also recovered was a list for distribution of the money. The AIG Election, AIG Abutu Yaro fdc has ordered swift interrogation and arraignment in court. The Command urges all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.
