The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have reportedly arrested over 60 persons at ‘Yahoo Boys’ awards night.
EFCC operatives from the Lagos Command apprehended 60 alleged online fraudsters at a hotel in Abeokuta, Ogun, during an award ceremony.
Mr Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesman for the EFCC, stated in a statement on Monday, November 29, that the suspects were apprehended at a “Peer Youths Awards” ceremony (‘Yahoo Boys’ awards night).
Investigations found that the event was planned to reward high-level online criminals, according to him.
“Items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest include exotic cars, electronic devices, laptop computers and mobile phones. The suspects will soon be charged to court,” he said.
Meanwhile, the arrests and the gunfire-filled invasion of the hotel generated quite a stir over the weekend.
The agents of the agency were accused of storming into rooms and firing indiscriminately, causing several innocent lodgers to flee.
