In response to the cries of residents of Oyigbo Local Government Area, the council chairman – Hon. Okechukwu Akara Nwaogu has taken a step by ordering the immediate rehabilitation of Obunku-mgboji failed section of Okoloma-Obete road.
Given the danger to life it poses and the way it restricts both human and vehicular movement, the road that has turned into a death trap for its users has caused great worry.
As a result of the deteriorated road system, there is insufficient agricultural produce available in the markets in the Local Government Area and residents are seriously lamenting.
In a interview with news reporters, the council chairman discussed how crucial the road is to the LGA’s residents and how its degeneration has a detrimental effect on both their quality of life and the local economy.
“We cannot fold our arms and watch our people continue to suffer for too long. Every Oyigbo man and woman knows how important the road is to us, and as a government that wants the best for her people, we decided to fix the failed sections of that road, not minding its cost implications.” – he said.
The Oyigbo council boss added;
“We know how the deplorable state of that road has hindered the movement of our people and grossly affected our economic growth; our people from the rural communities are finding it difficult to transport their farm produce to the urban areas to make ends meet“.
He continued by stating that renovation of the road would not only lessen people’s suffering but would also be extremely beneficial to the local government economically.
