Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, has reiterated his assertion that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission did not arrest him (EFCC).

According to many media sources, he was questioned by the agency’s Lagos zonal command on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, regarding fraud suspicions.

The former minister tweeted late Tuesday that he had been summoned by the anti-corruption agency for questioning, but that he had not been arrested as previously reported.

He claimed he flew into Lagos alone and spent almost six hours with the agency before being given bail on self-recognizance.

Just arrived at the George Hotel for dinner. I was never arrested by the EFCC. I was invited & I flew down to Lagos to see them. I arrived in their office at 2.00pm & left at 8.30pm. I was granted bail on self recognition. They were very polite & professional. Thanks be to God,” he tweeted.

Recall that the former minister defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in September, a move that many analysts said was a ruse to get him out of years of corruption charges.

On Wednesday, November 24, Fani-Kayode resorted to Twitter once more to retaliate against people who celebrated over his supposed detention.

He stated that joining the party will not protect him from prosecution, as some of his detractors have argued.

I pity those that said I was arrested. They are filled with hate & live on fake news. Since when did an invitation & a friendly chat become an arrest? And even if I had been arrested, SO WHAT? I am not above the law & neither does joining APC give me immunity. My God is MIGHTY!,” he tweeted
