Court of appeal frees Prophet Sotitobire, overturn the high court’s guilty verdict that sentenced him to life imprisonment over missing child
The Ondo State High Court’s ruling sentencing the founder of the Sotitobire Praising Chapel to prison has been overturned by the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State.
In October 2020, an Ondo State High Court condemned the Prophet to life in jail for the 2019 disappearance of one-year-old Gold Kolawole in his congregation.
On the basis of the circumstantial evidence offered by the prosecution, Justice Olusegun Odusola found Sotitobire and five others guilty of the two-count allegation of abduction and aiding and abetting to kidnap.
The founder of Sotitobire had sought the appeal court to overturn Prophet Sotitobire life sentence conviction.
The appeal court found on Friday, December 3, that the high court’s decision was based on insufficient circumstantial evidence to convict him. As a result, he was released and acquitted.
