In a move to uplift the welfare of civil servants, Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has approved a new minimum wage of N72,000 for workers in the state.
This decision, set to take effect in November 2024, is set to reshape lives of workers in the state, Hitvibz reports.
Alongside this wage increase, the governor is also launching an ambitious Free Transportation Scheme that includes 100 CNG buses to facilitate seamless commutes for civil servants.
This progressive initiative reflects Governor Sani’s commitment to enhancing the living conditions of the poor, vulnerable, and underserved populations in Kaduna State.
With this dual approach, the governor aims to not only provide immediate financial relief but also ensure that civil servants have reliable transportation for their daily commutes.
Kaduna Governor’s commitment to workers’ rights
The Free Transportation Scheme is designed to ease the burden on workers, allowing them to focus on their responsibilities without the stress of transportation costs.
The buses will transport civil servants to and from work.
To ensure the effective management of this scheme, a Joint Management Committee will be established, comprising representatives from organized labor, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), alongside state government officials.
This collaborative effort aims to promote transparency and accountability in the implementation of these initiatives.
According to a statement from Malam Ibraheem Musa, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, these decisions are a testament to Governor Sani’s lifelong commitment to advancing workers’ interests and protecting their rights.
He emphasised that the governor’s administration is dedicated to enhancing the productivity and welfare of civil servants, marking a transformative period for Kaduna State.
