SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesman, announced the arrest on Twitter on Tuesday.

However, sources informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the arrests and seizures sparked a fight between commercial motorcyclists and environmental taskforce operatives who were in the region to implement the okada ban on select highways.

The Lagos State Government started enforcing the ban on motorcycle operations in select areas of the state on June 1.

Apapa, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Lagos Island, Surulere, and Lagos Mainland are the areas.

Thousands of motorcycles had been seized by the government, and they were now being crushed in public.

The motorcyclists were unable to fight since the taskforce operatives arrived at Idi-Araba properly equipped, according to the spokesman.

They were just causing a scene after taskforce left with some of their impounded motorcycles. Our men from the Area Command have since been drafted there. Absolutely nothing to worry about. The Command assured residents in the area and other places of safety,” he said. (NAN)
