The Special Taskforce on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering of the Inspector-General of Police stated its officers have been able to impound almost 900,000 adulterated diesel and 30,000 litres of stolen crude oil in Rivers State.
Usman Kanfani, the Commander of the Special Task Force at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, revealed the information to journalists on Wednesday at the taskforce base, Port Harcourt refinery complex in Eleme, Rivers State, while parading several apprehended suspects.
Kanfani, who was represented by Acting Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the task force also arrested 13 suspects, 15 trucks each carrying 45,000 litres of diesel, and two smaller trucks each carrying 12,000 litres of the product at various locations across the state between February and March 2022.
He said that samples of the products were collected and analysed in laboratories, with the results revealing that they did not fulfil the Nigerian Standards Organization’s criteria.
He warned criminal groups involved in oil theft and illegal oil bunkering to stop their illegal actions.
He indicated that the group would continue to work to apprehend the hoodlums and bring them to justice.
