On Friday night, gunmen launched an attack in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state, killing one person and injured two others.
All of the victims were boarding school students from the area, according to reports.
The students were alleged to have gone to a nearby filling station to charge their phones when the attackers opened fire on them, killing one student on the spot and injuring two others.
According to The PUNCH, one Sunday Gyang, a community leader in the area, affirmed the attack in Jos on Saturday, saying that it happened around 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
“What happened was that yesterday afternoon (Friday) some Fulani herdsmen who were staying at a location in the community using their cows to destroy farm lands of the native community were driven away. So, last night (Friday), they sent terrorists to attack the community. Unfortunately, around Science School Kuru, by Emmy fuelling station opposite Assemblies of God’s Church closed to the school, the bandits who came in J5 vehicle opened fire on people.” – Gyang told Punch.
Adding that;
“A few of the students of Science school kuru who went there to charge their phones were affected. One of them who was shot in the neck by the gunmen died immediately while two others who also sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital. The attack on the community would have been more devastating if not that luckily, the gunshots fired by the terrorists attracted some security escorts on transit who also responded and chased the terrorists away.”
Meanwhile, Alabo Alfred, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the command was aware of the incident and will issue a press release on the attack soon.
But at the time of writing this report, the command has yet to do so.
