Which Nigerian State is Set to Become the First to Have 24 Hours Electricity?

The spotlight shines on Aba, the bustling commercial heart of Abia State, where President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the Geometric Power Plant, a groundbreaking achievement in Nigeria’s energy landscape, Hitvibz reports.

Situated in the Osisioma Industrial Area of Aba, the Geometric Power Plant stands as Nigeria’s inaugural integrated power facility, boasting a capacity of 181 megawatts.

The plant’s significance transcends mere infrastructure; it symbolises a monumental leap towards uninterrupted power supply in the region.

Preparations for the commissioning reached a crescendo as Turbine 3 roared to life at 3:39 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

This milestone sparked jubilation among the diligent engineers at Geometric Power and their counterparts at KS Energy.

Originally slated for inauguration on February 24, the Geometric Power Plant represents a colossal investment of approximately $800 million in the South-East Zone of Nigeria.

Aba Power Limited Electric, the newest electricity distribution company (DISCO) in Nigeria, will channel power from the geometric plant to nine out of Abia State’s 17 local government areas, ushering in a new era of energy reliability and accessibility.

The brainchild of Bart Nnaji, a distinguished professor and former Minister of Power, the Geometric Power Group embarked on this integrated project following a clarion call from global luminaries.

Former World Bank President James Wolfensohn and Nigeria’s Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala identified the acute need for reliable power during a visit to Aba in 2004.

The inauguration of the Geometric Power Plant heralds a transformative era, not only for Aba or Abia State but for the entire nation.

Alexander Maduakor, President of the Association of Aba Industrialists, lauds the federal government’s support for Geometric Power Limited, the trailblazing entity poised to generate and distribute its power.
