The official resumption date for schools has been announced as the second term of the 2024/2025 academic session approaches, for parents, students, and educators across Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Abia states to prepare ahead.
After much speculation and rumours about potential changes, education authorities in these states have confirmed the precise dates, urging full compliance with the government’s academic calendar, Hitvibz reports.
The clarity provided is crucial for smooth academic operations in these regions.
Rivers State: No Delay in Second Term Resumption
The Rivers State Ministry of Education has confirmed that all public and private schools within the state are set to resume on Monday, January 6, 2025.
This announcement follows rumours suggesting a shift in the resumption date, which has been officially dismissed by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ovy Chukwuma.
Dr. Chukwuma emphasised that the resumption date remains unchanged, and all schools must adhere to the second term start as outlined in the 2024/2025 academic calendar.
Students, teachers, and non-teaching staff in Rivers are expected to return to school promptly, with all health and safety protocols to be strictly observed for a smooth reopening.
Schools are encouraged to continue their commitment to delivering quality education for the benefit of all students in the state.
Akwa Ibom: Second Term Resumption Confirmed for January 6

Parents and caregivers are advised to note that unscheduled monitoring visits will be conducted to ensure compliance with the state’s educational standards.
