Three persons were confirmed dead after a two-story building in Mbodo, Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers state collapsed due to the usage of subpar materials, according to the National Emergency Management Agency.
Godwin Tepiko, the South-South Zonal Coordinator for NEMA, made this statement during an interview with reporters who had come to the scene of the incident.
Mr. Tepiko also issued a warning against using amateurs to complete building projects.
On Saturday, NEMA authorities pulled three victims out from beneath the unfinished building’s debris.
The building, which was located inside a hotel, collapsed at around 4 p.m. on Friday while the victims were working on it.
The rods, pillars, and blocks utilized in the constructing of the two-story building were substantially below requirement, according to a preliminary investigation report also received by personnels of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
Hitvibz gathered that Samuel Nwanosike, the chairman of the Ikwerre Local Council, mobilized three payloaders and offered the necessary logistics, which improved rescue efforts and the recovery of the bodies by the NSCDC, minimizing the number of casualties as some survivors were swiftly taken to hospitals for treatment.
