The EFCC claims that its officials were attacked and hindered from arresting Rivers PDP Governorship candidate Siminialaye Fubara, who is on the commission’s watch list.
According to a statement by the Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, thugs violated the security of the Port Harcourt Airport Omagwa and assaulted the operatives who shown great courage under what he characterized as a severe provocation.
Mr. Uwujaren cautioned against taking the commission’s civility for granted. The EFCC had already proclaimed Fubara, the immediate past Accountant General of Rivers State, and three other top state officials wanted in connection with an alleged N117 billion scam.
“The armed thugs assaulted operatives of the Commission who demonstrated commendable restraint under extreme provocation. The Commission condemns the blatant attempt to obstruct justice, warning that its civility should not be taken for granted.” – The statement reads.
The incident started at the Port Harcourt International Airport, when the jet carrying the PDP Guber candidate – Fubara and other leaders of the party who had joined him to Abuja to acquire the PDP governorship candidate’s Certificate of Return touched down.
As the EFCC operatives attempted to make the arrest, some youths presumed to be his followers reportedly objected and fought them, according to sources.
