One Decene Akinmetonibi, a resident of Abua/Odual local government area in Rivers State, was sentenced to 19 years in prison by a Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt for acquiring and selling a three-year-old infant.
Decene was charged with three counts of conspiracy, illegal adoption, and selling of Opele Honest, a newborn.
Mr Docene was sentenced to five years in count one, seven years in count two, and seven years in count three, for a total of 19 years to run consecutively in prison by Chief Magistrate Rita Ogugua.
The prosecution was able to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt, she stated.
She further disclosed that the accused kidnapped the child in Abua and then sold him in Eleme Local Government.
She claims the measure is in violation of the Child Rights Act and the Rivers State Child Rights Protection Act.
