Governor Fubara acknowledges Supreme Court Ruling but stands firm

In a statewide address, he acknowledged the court’s verdict but made it clear that while his administration respects the law, they do not agree with the judgment, Hitvibz reports.

His response has left many wondering—what happens next?

Governor Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that his government remains committed to upholding constitutional principles, due process, and the rule of law.

While expressing reservations about the ruling, he emphasized that as a law-abiding administration, they would comply with the Supreme Court’s orders.

After meeting with his legal team, the governor revealed that the certified true copy of the judgment is expected by Friday, March 7, 2025.

Once received, his administration will carefully review the decision and implement it accordingly to ensure the stability and progress of Rivers State.

Local government leadership reshuffle

In response to the ruling, Governor Fubara directed an immediate change in local government administration.

With caretaker committees now deemed unlawful, he instructed the Heads of Local Government Administration to assume control of the 23 councils until fresh elections are conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

Additionally, he ordered outgoing local government chairmen to formally hand over power by Monday, March 3, 2025.

Despite the challenges, the governor called for calm and urged citizens to continue their daily activities peacefully, assuring them that his administration remains focused on fulfilling its responsibilities.
