The Rivers State Governor – Nyesom Wike has gifted Dr. Peter Odili, a former governor of the state, a newly built house in Old Government Residential Area, GRA, Port Harcourt.

Odili received the house as a gift from the state government during a ceremony held in his honor on Tuesday to celebrate his 74th birthday.

Dr. Peter Odili was praised by Governor Wike as a great leader of men who helped many people, notably in Rivers State and across the nation, break into the political spotlight.

“There was a time every political class abandoned Dr. Odili. This is a man who gave us everything. Some people called him Mr. Donatus. There was no abuse he did not get. Everybody he tried to help their families, at the end of the day, all betrayed him. For us, we have used him as a school and we thank him for making himself available for us to use him to learn so that we won’t be shocked of whatever that is going to happened,” he said.

Gov. Wike expressed gratitude for the chance to have known Dr. Odili and to honor him. He cited the numerous benefits and gains from his political training under Dr. Odili as the reasons why he had been able to achieve his political triumphs.

He emphasized that Odili’s kindness allowed an Ikwerre boy to become governor of Rivers State.

In his response, the birthday man, Dr. Peter Odili, stated that the state government’s gift had left him and his wife, Hon. Justice Mary Odili (retired), speechless and overjoyed.

Recall that Wike served as chairman of the Oboi-Akpor Local Government Area from 1999 to 2007, during which time Odili led the oil-rich state as governor.

According to Odili, Governor Wike was the State’s top performing council chairman while he was in office.

He also praised Governor Wike for making investments in infrastructure, human capacity building, and creating the best law school campus in Port Harcourt.
