In a recent study conducted by the Pew Research Centre, Nigeria has emerged as the second most prayerful country on planet earth.
This revelation showcases Nigeria’s strong spiritual inclination, with an impressive 95 percent of its population engaged in daily prayer, Hitvibz.com reports
The Pew Research Centre, a non-partisan American think-tank headquartered in Washington, D.C., has been closely monitoring global prayer trends.
In their previous survey between 2008 and 2017, Nigeria held the top position as the world’s most devout nation, a testament to the huge commitment of its people to prayer.
In contrast, several countries have shown a significantly lower proclivity for prayer, including China (1%), the UK (6%), Switzerland (8%), Austria (8%), Czechia (9%), Germany (9%), Estonia (9%), France (10%), and Denmark (10%).
These findings emphasize the stark contrast in prayer practices across the globe.
The Pew Research Centre’s report highlights that daily prayer is more common than weekly worship attendance worldwide.
On average, approximately 49% of adults in 105 surveyed countries pray every day.
Notably, regions like sub-Saharan Africa (75%), the Middle East and North Africa (70%), and Latin America (62%) have the highest proportions of daily prayer practitioners.
The study reveals that prayer habits vary widely across Asia, with countries like Afghanistan (96%) and Iran (87%), both with predominantly Muslim populations, reporting high daily prayer rates.
This reflects the significance of prayer in Muslim-majority countries, aligned with the Five Pillars of Islam.
India, a Hindu-majority nation, also demonstrates a high daily prayer rate at 75%. In contrast, certain parts of Asia, such as Vietnam (14%) and China (1%), exhibit markedly lower prayer frequencies.
Here is a list of the world’s most prayerful countries:
Afghanistan: 96%
Nigeria: 95%
Algeria: 88%
Senegal: 88%
Djibouti: 87%
Iran: 87%
