Organised labour in Rivers State on Wednesday marched to the State House of Assembly to rally support for the autonomy of the local government, judiciary, and legislature.
They carried placards with the slogan “yes to full autonomy of state houses of assembly, Judiciary and local government” which they wore in varied union garb.
Beatrice Itubo, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Rivers State, told reporters that they want the House to vote in favour of the autonomy legislation that were just passed by the National Assembly’s joint session during the constitution amendment process.
Recall that the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) vowed to shut down any state legislature that voted against legislative autonomy.
