Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, has stated that the university is strict on lecturers who s*xually harass students, noting that two professors have been sacked for the offense.
On Monday in New York, Na’Allah told the News Agency of Nigeria that the university had implemented a policy on s*x abuse on campus, which had been made public.
“Female students needed to be protected,” said the VC, who was in the United States for a two-day visit to meet with the University of Abuja Alumni Association, USA branch, to garner support for the institution.
According to him, the university is dedicated to upholding high moral standards and would not accept any form of misbehavior by its employees against students.
“I have dismissed two professors since I became the vice-chancellor. It tells you how we are serious about the issue of s*xual harassment. We are collaborating with some non-governmental organisations, to make sure that it is not only us that are addressing this issue, but we have a strong partnership.” – He said.
The vice-chancellor added;
“It was sad to see some lecturers, who are supposed to be protecting the female students, becoming one of their problems. We cannot allow the lives of our students to be destroyed because most of the abuses destroy the lives of their victims.”
